Manuals are written for average riding conditions. If dust, hard riding, hot weather, cold weather, rain, snow etc are taken into consideration - I tend to error on the conservative side and change the oil more frequently than recommended.

Mid winter up here when we pull the dip stick on the airplane - you should see the frost crystals on the stick!

Our aircooled engines can only benefit from loving attention so next time there is a rainy day when you decide to polish your bike in the shop - add an oil change to the routine - you will know the difference in the way the engine purrs.
